4-Inch Onyx Box

Banded onyx is formed from dissolved carbonate minerals when limestone or dolomite sediments come into contact with hot water from recent volcanic action.

Our onyx line is extremely popular here in the park -- it reminds visitors of the dramatic geology of our towering cliffs. Since it is a national park, we cannot take stone from Yosemite to make these items, which are from Pakistan where banded onyx naturally occurs. It is hand-turned on a lathe by skilled craftsmen who support their local economy and families with this art form.

Each piece is completely unique and colors will differ slightly from those shown. The colors are dramatic and luminous -- photographs do not do justice to them.

This style of onyx box measures 4" across by 2" tall. Use with care to protect the finish, avoiding contact with acidic foods. Do not put in the dishwasher or microwave.
